In 2002 I moved to New York City to pursue my dream of becoming an international stylist. After obtaining positions in several salons over the years, I realized that I was not going to be able to provide my clients with the level of dedication and care that I thought they deserved unless I opened my own studio. 

​

In 2008 Hair Design Ampersand was established in the popular East Village. It was here that my goal of providing clients with the products, knowledge and care that they deserved came into existence. My dream to make all of them feel like they were getting the attention and advice that only celebrities or wealthy clients received had finally come true.

​

In 2008 my dedication to Hair Design Ampersand was rewarded with the need to move to a more spacious location to ensure that my expanding list of clients could relax and feel at home in a sophisticated, yet comfortable atmosphere. 

​

By 2013 “Yelp”, the world’s largest word of mouth website had rated it as the best hair salon in New York City and received an award from Yelp CEO Mr. Jeremy Stoppelman. For the next two years I continued to provide clients with the best possible solutions, advice and products.

​

In 2016 with the experience gained in New York City I felt I had finally gained the advanced level of knowledge and skill needed to return home to Japan and open my own salon. This was a difficult time because I was leaving behind the wonderful family of friends I had made in New York, but at the same time it felt good to return to Japan. It was here in the affluent Shirokanedai area of Tokyo that 58c was born.
